Previous teaching interns

This competitive scheme encourages promising doctoral research students (including professional doctoral students) to develop teaching skills in their fields.

It offers successful applicants a program of professional development activities during the course of their PhD candidature.

The Postgraduate Teaching Internship Scheme will offer up to 24 UWA Postgraduate Teaching Internships across the University.

The aim of the Scheme is:

  • to enhance the future employment prospects of the interns
  • to assist in attracting and retaining outstanding students at UWA.

The Scheme reflects the University's goals in supporting high-quality teaching and learning and fostering the nexus between teaching and research, as expressed in its Strategic Plan and associated documents.

Eligibility

Both full-time and part-time PhD and professional doctoral students may apply, whether or not they are in receipt of a scholarship. The scope of employment of the interns does not exceed the employment restrictions detailed under postgraduate scholarship schemes.

Selection of the internships is undertaken by the Grants and Schemes Standing Committee based on the criteria outlined in the guidelines. It should be noted that, from 2011, the discipline area of applicants may also be taken into account in order to maximise the benefits obtained from a diverse cohort.

Applications

Applications to the 2012 Scheme are closed. A call for 2013 internships will be made in July 2012.
