the UWA web site providing information and resources. This page
is a part of the Staff Induction
website and complements the Teaching and
Learning Orientation program that is offered twice a year
just prior to the beginning of each semester.
The information and links provided here
provide quick reference points that might be of assistance to you
particularly in your first few weeks at UWA. Further information

The Evaluation of Teaching
Unit (ETU) assists academic staff in preparing academic
portfolios for promotion and tenure and development purposes.
The University rewards excellence in teaching
with annual awards as well as promoting excellence and innovation
in teaching and learning through various grants and schemes
including the Teaching Internship Scheme for postgraduate
students.
Faculty CATLysts have broad responsibility
for promoting teaching and learning within each Faculty.
Committees
A number of University committees contribute
to teaching and learning policy. Academic Board
provides the University Senate with advice and recommendation on
academic related matters including budgetary and resource
allocation. The Teaching
and Learning Committee a significant central role in the
overall planning and management of the University's teaching and
learning activities. There are also Faculty Teaching and Learning
committees.
eLearning
WebCT is UWA's
centrally supported Online Learning environment.
Through the iLecture system, audio and
visuals from traditional face-to-face lectures are automatically
recorded and processed into a variety of streaming media formats
and made available for student access 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week.
Human Resources provides assistance to
employees in all employment matters including promotion and
tenure policies and procedures and academic portfolios.
The Equity and Diversity Office promotes and
supports UWA's vision to provide an equitable and inclusive
environment for all staff, students and the broader community
with which we engage.
Evaluation of Teaching (SPOT) and Evaluation
of Units (SURF)
The Evaluation of Teaching
Unit (ETU) assists academic staff in seeking and using
feedback on teaching from students and peers.
University Handbooks contain full details of
the University's course and student information and have been
compiled for the guidance of students as well as staff members
who are required to advise enrolling and re-enrolling
students.

The International Centre supports UWA staff
and postgraduate students in collaborative international research
projects and staff and student exchanges and supports
international students studying at UWA both in Australia and in
off-shore programs.

Staff are served by a number of Subject
Libraries, the Scholars' Centre and Collections, some housed in
the Reid Library Building while others are housed within
Faculties.
Formal and informal mentoring opportunities
are available.

Academic leadership in research and research
training at UWA is provided by the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research
& Innovation) and by the Dean of the Graduate Research
School.
Books, videos and other materials on a range
of topics to assist in your professional development, including
teaching and learning, leadership and career development, can be
borrowed from the CSD Resource Collection.
UWA Student Guild provides a range of
services and represents the student community on many of
University wide, Faculty and School committees including the UWA
Senate. The Guild has a number of Departments that represent
student views on academic matters and contribute to student life
at UWA through social and sporting clubs and catering and other
business outlets. The Charter
of Student Rights upholds the fundamental rights of students
who undertake their education at UWA.
Student Services assist students with their
learning through a number of services and programs including
Learning Language & Research Skills, the Uni Mentor
Scheme, Transition Support Program, counselling and careers
and employment. Access a range of information, support services
and programs that complement the university experience and which
promote links with the broader community.
The Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) has
overall portfolio responsibility for teaching and learning. The
Dean of Undergraduate Studies has an advisory role to the PVC(A).

Teaching and Learning Support
The Centre for the Advancement of
Teaching and Learning (CATL) is the focal point for bringing
together and expanding the broad range of teaching innovations
and staff development activities currently directed towards
providing the highest quality learning opportunities for
students. CATL offers seminars, workshops and support to
individuals, Schools and Faculties.
Text Books, Printing and copying,
multimedia, photographic services
Textbooks, popular books and stationery are available from
The Co-op Bookshop.
UniPrint provides general printing, copying, design and
binding services.
The Photographic Unit provides a full range of photographic,
desktop publishing, scanning and production services.
DUIT Multimedia designs and develops multimedia materials
for use with web and other forms of teaching.
